Festivities and community!

This is the time of year when we really get to spend time together as house and community! Boys like Jero, Emilio, Laurent and Brian were busily decorating the house and trimming the tree, while Hassan volunteered for a local holiday charity. The whole school gathered for a fabulous and fun Christmas Assembly on Friday, and Joel and Philippe made sure to get a photo with Santa in the library.

A number of Bolton Boys performed in the Cross Campus Carol Service, and our very own Peter Butterfield conducting the boys as they carolled at a very full Christ Church Cathedral!

The full school Christmas assembly was also this week, bringing together the SMUS Junior, Middle, and Senior schools to enjoy each others company, performances, and general holiday spirit! This sense of community continued at the Parent’s Auxiliary Christmas Gala dinner on Saturday. Students put a lot of effort into their appearance, donning suits and ties (a couple bow ties too!), and sat down to a large dinner with a number of Day Students and their families and other people tied to the SMUS community. Christmas trees decorated by each boarding house, including Bolton’s tree covered in student penguin art, were set up around the event. Our bellies full, our ears enjoyed the tenor of world renowned singer, Ken Lavigne. It was a lively event enjoyed by all!

All in all it has been a wonderful and festive time for our boarding and house community! Sunday night was chapel organized and put on by Bolton house on the theme of Endeavour, and pushing ourselves to meet our goals and to aim high. There was a rousing renditions of ACDC’s Thunderstruck by Laurent (Lead guitar, with incredibly fast fingers!), Jack (Rhythm guitar), Philippe (Drums), Max (Cello), and Anderson (Vocals), and I’m Yours by Jason Mraz performed by Laurent and Jack (guitar), Philippe (drums), and David (vocals). Two wonderful speeches given by Anderson and Peter, and an impressive display of Chinese flute music by Clement. The night was wrapped up by a secret santa gift exchange between Bolton and Timmis. Everyone has been in good spirits and very involved in the SMUS and wider community this past week! Special thanks to Diego and Philippe for pulling this complicated task off!
