As the daffodils bloom, hummingbirds hover and soccer and rugby get under way on the field, the boys of Bolton have been busy preparing for Spring Break and enjoying the sunshine.
If you were wondering what your son might hear from the house parents on a regular basis, here is a short clip of some of the things you might expect to hear on any given day!
On Monday night we celebrated the Leap Year by heading down to beautiful Milestone’s restaurant, right on the inner harbour with our sister house Timmis. The boys were treated to a delicious meal, good company and fantastic views. Everyone left satisfied and reconnected.
Tuesday afternoon was geared for the grade 11’s as they had their Leadership Conference which introduced students to concepts that build their understanding of leadership and how they see themselves as leaders in preparation for Grade 12. There was a focus on reflection and the Five Practices of Leadership. We are very excited for the energy, ideas and enthusiasm of our current grade 11’s, and are looking forward to our Bolton Leadership retreat in April.
Last Friday was a Service Day for the Middle School and all of our Bolton 8’s were out and about in the community doing service work of various kinds. Harry and Richard were helping out at Our Place and Woodwyn Farms while Eric was involved with the Eco Warriors who built a raised bed for a school garden and helped clean and organize the school’s recycling system, and Jesus was collecting clothing for the less fortunate.
This week was also the final week of afternoon sessions for the Grade 10 boys. Joel was working with houseparent Mr. Daum to build a Biosand filter that uses sand and gravity to clean and purify water, and Adrian is building a solar thermal collector and pump system to provide renewable energy for the boarding house.
The afternoons were also filled with sporting events including rugby and squash. Stanley was in Vancouver for the BC Junior Squash Tournament and Prom, Dimitri, Artem and Edi played in two rugby games as part of the pre-season.
A number of Bolton Boys were involved with the Wellness Team that presented in both the Middle and Senior School Chapels where they introduced some wellness concepts such as mindfulness, mediation and the Healthy Mind Platter. This was followed by a relaxation session one evening before bed.
Saturday saw the usual gamut of activities on offer and many were quick to take advantage of playing badminton, going to a movie, bowling, and even doing some farming!
Young Elliot, houseparent Mr. Daum’s eldest son, decided to take a turn at duty to give the senior boy a break. As you can see he is a natural!
One more week until Spring Break! We look forward to hearing all about the amazing trips the boys will be taking with the school and their families. We have guys going to Japan, Nicaragua, Argentina and Europe with the school and many more wonderful locales with their families. We wish the boys a relaxing and well-earned break and encourage them to be ready to hit the ground running in the final term!
