Return of the Alumni!

This was a very exciting week for everyone at the school as we welcomed back alumnus from as far back as the 1940’s! Many ex-Boltonites popped in to say hello and catch up with their younger housemates from years past and there was a weekend full of exciting events for everyone.

Prior to the big weekend festivities, the boys were hard at work in their classes and with their various sports teams. Here are Amos, Adrian and Dele working away in Houseparent Mr. Bateman’s art class and the grade 12’s having a grade out meeting while enjoying the beautiful sunshine.

Saturday was the big Alumni day on campus with the international marketplace, bouncy castle, bubble soccer, music, food, soccer, rugby and more. Many of the boys were hard at work preparing food for the marketplace, helping direct traffic, playing rugby, selling wares and participating in the fun.

Here are Joel, Amos, Chen, Laurent, Jacky, Mikhail, David, Jack, Edward, Bryan, Nick and Ranon working at the marketplace.

Here is Timmy performing with Abby in the Christine Duke Theater, part of an all-star performance of student talent.

Dimitri played an outstanding game in the Alumni rugby game that saw SMUS get revenge from an earlier loss to arch-rival Oak Bay. There was a huge crowd on hand to support the team and everyone left very satisfied.

Saturday was also a big day for the graduating Bolton boys who had their leaver’s chapel in the morning where they were given their graduation teddy bear and were part of the traditional bear toss. The big smiles are a sure sign that they are beginning to feel ready for the next step in their journey.  We will be sad to see them leave, but will look forward to our final few weeks together, and of course to seeing them back next Alumni weekend!

In addition to the main events, we had boys playing tennis, squash, and badminton and rowing, including Alex who braved the choppy ocean waters of Brentwood Bay to row in the prestigious Brentwood Regatta.

Next week the action continues with grade 9 out trips leaving on Wednesday, AP exams beginning Monday and another big rugby game Friday night under the lights of UVic. All the boys are in great spirits and enjoying the beautiful sunshine and warm weather.  Only 6 weeks of classes left.  Go Bo!
