This was an exciting week of getting ready for Christmas holidays with musical performances, the annual Christmas assembly, awkward festive family photos, snowball fights and general merriment!
Perhaps the biggest highlight was the arrival of the year’s first snowfall which began on Monday night as a slushy/hail/snow mix that had the boys running from their rooms shrieking with delight. The thought of a snow day filled everyone’s dreams on Thursday night, but the 2 or 3 centimeters of snow were not enough to shut down the school, though they were more than sufficient for some great snowball fights, snowmen and even a snow fort.
Thursday night was the Cross Campus Carol Service at beautiful Christ Church Cathedral. The event is always a great success and Bolton House was well represented in both the Senior and Middle School groups.
Friday afternoon was the annual all school Christmas Assembly held in the gym and featuring a variety of entertaining, sometimes awkward, performances. From singing Christmas carols to dance numbers and everything in between, it is always a great afternoon that is capped off with the fantastically fun singing of the 12 days of Christmas. You can tell from the enthusiasm of the Bolton boys that it’s all about being loud!
Of special note was the Bolton House representation in the singing of “We Three Kings”, with both Mr. Bateman and Christian belting out their verses to the delight of the crowd! A true honor to be up there with Mr. Snowden in his final assembly before he retires.
Saturday saw the usual variety of activities and this week featured a couple of really exciting ones including a trip to Mt. Washington to ski and a trip to Vancouver for a shopping experience like no other at the new Tsawwassen Mills Mall. Here are some photos that Lars took, and all reports are that the powder was awesome!
Pine, Alejandro, Fernando, Aoi and Diego took a break from the cold weather to hit the pool and have some fun in the waves and on the slide. Jerry got into a festive mood with some Christmas baking, and a whole heap of guys braved the chilly and wet weather to explore beautiful Butchart Gardens, all a glow with the twelve days of Christmas.
On Sunday evening, Bolton House really got into the spirit of the season with a Secret Santa gift exchange involving our sister house Timmis. It was festive, delicious, and a wonderful way to finish off our last weekend in boarding of 2016. Kudos to the organizing team as this was a totally student run activity that was perfectly executed!
Here is a nice feature on one of our houseparents, Mr. Danskin. You can check out some of the highlights of his career and get to know him a bit better. https://news.smus.ca/2016/12/02/smus-teacher-feature-mr-mike-danskin/
This is our last week before everyone departs for the Christmas break on Thursday, the 15th. It has been a jam packed four months and we are so proud of all that our penguins have accomplished. We wish them all a restful, restorative and fun filled holiday season. Merry Christmas from Bolton House! See you in 2017!
