The Last Long Weekend

May is almost over and we have arrived at the final long weekend of the year. Many of the boys chose to head home or to spend the weekend away from the school, but a hearty crew stuck around to enjoy what turned out to be an absolutely outstanding weekend of sunshine, delicious food, and lots of fun.

Ai, Rentaro, Jero, Mujtaba, Nokia, Noah and Digvijay went to Paintball over the long weekend!

We also managed to get a full house photo in the sun on Monday night. Unfortunately the Head of House was away so we will need to add him later, but what a crew!

Look at that crew!

And here are the grads!

It was also a busy week for athletics. Here is LeRoy with his many ribbons after cleaning up at the Track and Field Island competition. He and his brother are headed to the provincial meet in a few weeks.

Congrats!

The tennis team qualified for provincials as well winning the Island trophy, way to go Krissh and Dylan!

The Senior Boys rugby qualified for the provincial tournament as well despite a tough fought loss to Oak Bay in the City Final.

Malik will also be off with the Rowing team to Ontario next week to round out an impressive year of athletics from the Bolton boys that saw various Boltonites playing on 6 different varsity senior teams! Well done to all.

While no Provincial tournament was on the line for chair lifting, Mujtaba and Ryan B. gave their best shot at an almost impossible task. Try it out at home, it’s almost impossible!

Also this week, all of the bands from across Middle School and Senior School performed their pieces at the University of Victoria’s Farqhuar Auditorium. In the video recording below, you can catch a percussion masterpiece from our very own Ai, some lovely clarinet work from Louis and Josh, and strong trumpet sounds from Leupold.

One of the agenda items at the end of the year for us in Bolton House is to listen to speeches from those Grade 11 students who are interested in running for the official leadership position of Head of House. From a very strong pool of candidates, the votes eventually swayed in favour of Joshua Kim as Head of House and Nokia Higurashi as Boarding Prefect!

Nokia’s Boarding Prefect Interview:

Why did you want to be a Bolton Prefect?

I wanted to be like a brother to everyone in the house.

What makes you prefect material?

I think my main strength when it comes to this role will be my level of responsibility.

What role do you see yourself playing for the Bolton community?

I think it’ll be really important for me to be a good “second-in-command” for Josh, who will do a great job as Head of House. It will be useful for both of us to recognize our own strengths and weaknesses, and to help each other when the need arises.

What is one unique fact about yourself that the other Bolton members might not know?

I’ve actually been “in boarding” since Grade 7! I was living at Ms. McGee’s house but attending all of the boarding events like prep at the middle school and house events.

Thanks Nokia, and congratulations on your new role!

We hope you enjoyed that quick interview with Nokia, and stay tuned for next week’s entry when we sit down with our new Head of House – Josh Kim!

This next week is a big one with the final House Games taking place on Sunday followed by an exciting evening of awards and dinner for the annual SMOSCARS – lots of photos to come next week. Hopefully the boys can hang on to their lead and bring the cup home!
